oval chainrings
jonny88, Italy 25 Jul 2012

Dear Dr. Ferrari! What do you think about "oval" chainrings like the ones from rotor or the one using froome and wiggins - osymetric. can they have an effect on performance? they exist quite a long time, but users are rare. thanks

I am just testing osymetric.
Sure they involve different muscles and need time to be used to: you really feel a different pedal stroke.
I will let you know my opinion.

Not sure if this helps or confuses things, but B.Wiggins did not use Osymetric chainrings in winter training or the Volta ao Algarve, then after that changed back to Osymetric for the rest of the 2012 season...maybe they (Sky) figure this would give him 'extra' power on top once the Osymetric was added back in??....but not sure/unclear why this was. Think Porte was using them in Algarve...
